Fire Destroys Baltimore Bridal Shop

RadioOnFire.com - Fire investigators are still trying to figure what caused a raging fire Sunday night that quickly destroyed a bridal shop in Fells Point.
Firefighters were called to the 1700 block of Eastern Avenue about 8 p.m., where fire officials said the fire broke out on the third floor of Bridal Fashions by Niko, which has been a family-owned-and-operated business for more than 30 years.
The Fells Point shop once filled with beautiful dresses and gowns is now filled with ashes and waste from a fire that quickly spread through the building, which is now condemned.
"All you could see, you could look in the windows and see nothing but a big cloud," said Robert Jaron, who called 911. "We come around the corner and we smelled smoke, looked up and just, you could see the top of the building just smoldering away."
No one was in the building and firefighters were able to get the flames under control before the fire spread.
"It was really busy down here just due to tourism and people being out and about. Luckily, that is was a holiday weekend, and people were out and saw the fire to give our units the opportunity to respond quickly and extinguish it before any other property or lives were lost as a result of the fire," Baltimore City Fire Department spokesman Samuel Johnson said.
Officials said no one was hurt. Fire officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Monday morning, Bob Klein, who owns of Klein Brothers Real Estate next door, said he found out through the news and rushed over.
"My building was a little disheveled. (There's) water damage, smoke damage, and (it's) very devastating. That's all I can tell you. It's a lot of history here," Klein said. "Beautiful merchandise, very reputable. I have no idea what happened, and it's devastating for them, and they're truly nice, nice people."
"You could see the gowns, the dresses and all, and then two minutes later, you couldn't see nothing. I mean, that sucker, it filled up quick," Jaron said.
Fire officials said they believe the fabric in the store may have contributed to the large amount of smoke that came from the scene.
