Brandon Marshall Meets With Denver Police Chief

RadioOnFire.com - Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall followed up on his protest of injustice in the policing of Black communities on Tuesday, [September 13] with a visit to the Denver police administration building for a meeting with Police Chief Robert White. White reportedly hosted Marshall for nearly an hour, as the two discussed police brutality and how the department's training program prepares officers for encounters with civilians.
Marshall drew the support of some, and the ire of many others, after he became the focus of the NFL's opening day pre-game ceremony as the only player to take a knee during the playing of the National Anthem. The decision would have an immediate effect on his public image, as scores of fans took to social media to bash Marshall with insults and threats. He responded to the continued attacks on Tuesday, with a tweet that read, "It's cool, because people can call me the N-word or cuss at me or say they wish I'd break my neck all they want. There's no backlash from me. Hate can't drive out hate. Only love can drive out hate." But words weren't the only source of retribution Marshall faced for his stance, as it was announced on Friday and Monday that the Broncos defenseman had lost endorsements with Air Academy Federal Credit Union and CenturyLink respectively.
Despite his losses, Marshall has vowed to continue forward with his protest, taking the first step towards action with his meeting on Tuesday. Chief White acknowledged Marshall for going beyond his grievance, with an aim to participate in effecting change. “There are a lot of people that will raise issues and be negative and be what my kids call just ‘haters,’ no matter what you do, and let it go at that. Marshall has issues, and he has questions as it relates to what we’re doing," said White. “He acknowledged some of those challenges, and he wants to do something about it. And part of doing something about it is going to the source of where you think some of those issues are.”
According to White, Marshall has been invited to ride along the beat with an officer. He will also have a chance to test the training simulator used in situations which might involve an officer drawing their weapon to fire.
