Birdman Ordered to Pay $3.3 Million for Uncleared Samples

RadioOnFire.com - Birdman and Cash Money Records have been ordered to pay $3.3 million in royalties for samples they used.
The label used samples for Lil Wayne songs including “You” and “Certified” that were never cleared through the proper channels. The owner’s to the rights of the songs sampled sued Cash Money and will now collect what’s owed to them, according to TMZ.
Cash Money has been criticized extensively in the past for not paying their artists, so it’s no surprise that sample clearing is not being done in an orthodox way over there. Artists like Trick Daddy said the label doesn’t even have an office and is running a non-traditional manner that might not benefit them business wise. Artists including Lil Wayne, Juvenile, and Tyga have all attacked or sued Cash Money for unpaid royalties.Weezy filed a $51 million dollar suit against his label home at the end of last year that still hasn't been settled.
