Atlanta Hawks Sign Dwight Howard to a 3-Year, $70.5 Million Deal

RadioOnFire.com - Eight-time NBA All-Star Dwight Howard is returning to the East Coast, and not to just any city; the well traveled center will be playing for his hometown Atlanta Hawks in 2016-17. The Hawks reached a $70.5 million three-year deal with the 30-year-old athlete on Friday, July 1. The contract pans out to average $23.5 million per year.
With the signing the Hawks are left with just enough cap room for one more major signing. They face the task of deciding whether to bring back guard Kent Bazemore or power forward Al Horford. Both men have attracted a wealth of interest on the market with the Houston Rockets inviting Hall of Famers Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwan to join James Harden at their meeting to pitch a deal to the free agent.
In any case, Howard joins a playoff contender who've experienced success under coach Mike Budenholzer over the past couple of seasons. He brings a career 17.8 average with a remarkable 12.7 rebounds per game. In 2016, Howard proved he's got some more in the tank, going on a tear in January, where he scored 10 straight double-doubles; a league record.
