Celebrity Deaths: Famous People We Lost in 2016

GEORGE MICHAEL
British singer George Michael, passed away on Dec. 25, 2016 at age 53. The singer, songwriter, and producer, who rose to musical prominence as a member of the 80's duo Wham!

CARRIE FISHER
The actress and writer - famous for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars died Tuesday morning ... days after suffering a massive heart attack on board a flight from London to LAX.

MUHAMMAD ALI
The heavyweight boxing champion who transformed himself into a global hero, died June 3 at 74. Ali, who fought a high-profile battle with Parkinson’s disease, died of septic shock.

FIDEL CASTRO
The cigar-chomping despot who ruled Communist Cuba for nearly half a century, sent shock waves around the world. Castro died Nov. 25 at 90.

PRINCE
The 57-year-old singer-songwriter was found dead in his Paisley Park, Minn., home on April 21. Toxicology reports revealed that Prince died of an accidental prescription drug overdose.

DAVID BOWIE
The 69 year old British rocker whose sound and style defied categorization, died Jan. 10 after a secret battle with cancer.

JOHN GLENN
The first U.S. astronaut to orbit the Earth — and who was aboard the shuttle Discovery in 1998 at age 77, making him the oldest person to fly in space — died Dec. 8. Glenn, also a decorated Korean War fighter pilot and U.S. senator for 24 years, was 95.










ZSA ZSA GABOR

The 99 year old Hungarian model-turned-Hollywood socialite whose turbulent romances titillated the public long before the rise of celebrity reality shows, died Dec. 18 of a heart attack.












ALAN RICKMAN

The 69 year old British actor who lent his elegant charm to dark roles in “Die Hard” and the Harry Potter movies, died Jan. 14 from pancreatic cancer.










ROB FORD 
The ex-Toronto mayor whose many scandals included smoking crack and cavorting with suspected prostitutes, died March 22 at 46 from a rare form of cancer.







MORLEY SAFER
The CBS journalist who filed more than 900 reports for “60 Minutes,” died May 19 of pneumonia. He was 84.











CRAIG SAGER
The NBA sideline reporter known as much for his outrageous suits as his deep knowledge of the game, died Dec. 15 of leukemia. He was 65.












RICKY HARRIS

The comedian & actor known for roles in 'Dope,' 'Everybody Hates Chris' and skits with Snoop Dogg, died December 26th at the age of 54.







LOR SCOOTA
The Baltimore based rapper who's hit song "Bird Flu" was about to take him to national heights before he was tragically gunned down June 25th at the age of 23.






ATTRELL CORDES
Better known as Prince Be of the ’90s R&B duo P.M. Dawn, died June 17 from kidney disease. He was 46.










RON GLASS
The Emmy-Nominated Actor known for playing Ron Harris in the sitcom “Barney Miller” and Shepherd Derrial Book in Firefly,” died November 25th. He was 71.









ALAN THICKE

The "Growing Pains" star who played one of the quintessential television father of the 1980s, died Dec. 13. Thicke suffered a heart attack while playing hockey with his grandson.






JOAN “CHYNA” LAURER
The groundbreaking female professional wrestler died April 20, 2016 at the age of 46. Known by her moniker Chyna, the performer became popular act WWF.







FLORENCE HENDERSON
The actress who defined the television mom of the modern era with her starring role in "The Brady Bunch," died Nov. 24th at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was 82.









GENE WILDER
The actor who starred in films like "See No Evil, Hear No Evil," "Young Frankenstein," "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and "Stir Crazy," died Aug. 29 of complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was 83.




PHIFE DAWG
The founding member of A Tribe Called Quest, died March 22, 2016 at 45. The musician, who was born Malik Isaac Taylor, spent the years prior to his death battling health issues, including Type 1 diabetes.






TONY BURTON
The athlete turned actor started as a boxer before landing the role of Duke in the “Rocky” movies (trainer for Apollo Creed) died February 25, 2016 at 78.







GEORGE GAYNES 
The actor died February 15, 2016 at the age of 98. He came to the forefront with roles in “Punky Brewster,” “Police Academy,” “Mission: Impossible” and “Bonanza.”









ABE VIGODA
Veteran character actor Abe Vigoda died at 94 on January 26. The actor is most well known for his three-time Emmy nominated performance of Phil Fish in “Barney Miller” and as Salvatore “Sal” Tessio in “The Godfather” franchise.








GEORGE KENNEDY

The actor died at 91 on February 28, 2016. He appeared in films like “Cool Hand Luke,” “The Naked Gun” and “Airport.”











DORIS ROBERTS
“Everybody Loves Raymond” actress Doris Roberts died April 17, 2016 at the age of 90. Aside from the sitcom, the veteran performer also had roles in “St. Elsewhere,” “Remington Steele,” and “Perfect Strangers”







NANCY REAGAN
One of the most high-profile and influential first ladies of the 20th century died March 6th at the age of 94 from 
congestive heart failure.
