Meek Mill Wants Black Lives Matter to Focus on Violence in Chicago

RadioOnFire.com - Meek Mill took to social media on Thursday [February 15], to express outrage over the recent shootings that claimed the lives of two children and left one in grave condition in Chicago this week. The Philly rapper called out the media for its minimal coverage of the incidents and called on Black Lives Matter to shift their focus from injustices in law enforcement to violence in the community.
"I think it's about time for 'black lives matter' [to] focus on Chicago. It's a lot of kids dying out there and we putting all our focus on cops! RIP BABY GIRL, ONE OF 3 little kids killed this week! CNN not covering this news," Meek wrote in the caption of a photo of 11-year-old Takiya Holmes. Takiya died on Wednesday morning, four days after she suffered a gunshot to the head that left a bullet lodged in her brain stem. Only 30 minutes prior to the shooting, 12-year-old Kanari Gentry-Bowers was shot in the head at a location not far from where Holmes was hit. Both victims were believed to have been struck by stray shots.

On Tuesday, the life of a toddler was snatched in what was believed to be a targeted shooting. Two-year-old Lavontay White was killed in the back seat of his aunt's vehicle. Also killed in the incident was 26-year-old Lazarec Collins, who authorities believe was the intended target of gang rivals. The shooting, which was captured on live stream, has sparked an outcry from members of the community and local leaders demanding that the city become the focus of a concerted effort to end the violence.
