RadioOnFire.com - Floyd Mayweather shared his thoughts on Colin Kaepernick's protest over the weekend, in a short response shared by FightHype.com. A Fight Hype reporter caught up to the boxing great while walking through a public area flanked by bodyguards, and asked if he could give his input on his fellow American athlete's stance during the National Anthem. Floyd swiftly obliged, giving context to where he perceives Kaepernick to be coming from, for anyone who might have misconstrued the protests, before admitting that he wouldn't go about it in the same way.
"I think a lot of people don't really understand what he's doing. He's basically saying that a lot of Americans that live in the urban communities, they feel like they're not being treated fair. So they're taking a stand, they're saying 'We all just want to be treated fair,'" said Floyd. "Me, myself, my approach would be different, but everybody approaches things in their own way."
Floyd has never been one to dissent over social or political matters. But while he is typically viewed as a brand conscious superstar, he does have a track record of covering the costs of funerals and helping friends and family out of poverty. Through his Floyd Mayweather Foundation, he's given to various organizations and schools, including Three Square Food Bank, Rainbow Dreams Academy Charter School, and Habitat for Humanity. Over the weekend, TMZ reported that the Las Vegas Red Lions youth football team that he sponsors, became one of the growing numbers of amateur sports teams across the nation to align with the NFL protests, when they took a knee during the National Anthem preceding their most recent game.
