T-Boz Addresses TLC Kickstarter Controversy

TLC started a Kickstarter campaign in January of this year, looking for funding to create their final group album, independently. With a goal of $150,000, the ladies quickly surpassed that – and after the 30 day period, ended up with a whopping $430,000!

Donations came from fans all over, including a generous $5,000 from Katy Perry. As incentives for the donations, prizes ranged from a signed copy of the album when it’s made, all the way to a sleepover party with T-Boz. However, nearly a year later, many of the prizes have yet to be fulfilled, and as far as an album – even a single?! Nowhere in sight. Needless to say, people are getting restless.

Earlier this week, T-Boz responded to a fed up fan on social media who’d tweeted, “T-Boz, where is my money? Yall owe me $5 for that Kickstarter album,” by writing:

“Call Kickstarter and tell em yo give it bk.”

This led many to believe she was saying that they’d ripped fans off and no album was ever coming. It even led to a slanderous hashtag called #TLCGoingToJailParty, but finally, T-Boz is clearing up the rumors. Calling in to The Rickey Smiley Show yesterday, she explained that the album is still very much on the way. Misinformed people just like to run with things, she noted, and that they’ve updated Kickstarter donators weekly since the beginning. Listen in full below. As per the Kickstarter page’s last update, the album is due in 2016.
