Remembering 9/11

I remember September 11, 2001 very well. I was working in FYE in Baltimore's Mondawmin Mall. Rapper Jay-Z had just released his Blueprint album when word of the attack on the Twin Towers started to circulate. The mall, schools everything closed early in the hours following the tragedy. It was a surreal day.

There are several planned events in the Baltimore area today to mark the 14th anniversary of 9/11.

The first is a Remembrance Ruin at Fort Meade this morning. The Commander at Fort Meade will join more than 1800 service members and civilians from 22 units for the Fort Meade Joint Service Wellness and remembrance Run starting at 6:30 Friday morning. The three mile run will wind its way through the fort with family members lining the streets to encourage the runners.

Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman will lead a delegation of county officials in a wreath laying ceremony at 8:46 Friday morning at the Garden of Hope in Centennial Park, South to honor and pay tribute to all who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks.

Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Shuh will also participate in a wreath laying ceremony at the county's September 11th memorial at the county police headquarters on Veterans Highway at 9:45 Friday morning.
