The Show Must Go On – Reelz Picks Up ‘Miss USA’ Pageant

RadioOnFire.com - Donald Trump made quite a few enemies after his many offensive remarks about Mexican immigrants. He royally ticked off so many people that the Miss USA pageant was pulled from Univison and NBC, all the hosts and performers quit and Macy’s is pulling all Trump related merchandise off the shelves. The show must go on however, and TV company Reelz has come to the rescue. Find out more after the jump.
Reelz released a statement Thursdat regarding their participation in the Miss USA pageant saying,
“The decision on the part of REELZ to acquire the rights to the Miss USA Pageant was based on our belief that this special event, and the women who compete in it, are an integral part of American tradition.”…”As one of only a few independent networks, we decided to exercise our own voice and committed ourselves to bringing this pageant to American viewers everywhere.”
Stan E. Hubbard CEO of the Reelz network added, “For us, this decision is about the dreams of the contestants who come from all walks of life across the United States, the city of Baton Rouge that has proudly come together to host this pageant and the viewers who will be watching and celebrating its 54th year on television. The Miss USA Pageant is a perfect fit on REELZ where movies, entertainment and celebrity come together every day of the year.”
Reelz will still air the pageant on July 12th as planned and it will also be available to stream through the Miss USA website. Although the show will still go on it will have some changes to it’s original plan. Hosts Cheryl Burke and Thomas Roberts have stepped down, judge Emmitt Smith will no longer a participate and performances by both Flo Rida and Latin singer J Balvin have been cancelled.
Behind-the-scenes commentator Jeannie Mai will still be a part of the show. She released a statement saying she does not agree with Trump’s statements however, she “can’t abandon” the women competing.
Reelz reaches about 70 million homes nationwide and now that the show will go on we are only left to wonder, who will host it?
