RadioOnFire.com - The 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend was originally supposed to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina, but relocated after state legislators did not change a newly enacted bill targeting the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
North Carolina's House Bill 2, mandates transgender people use public restrooms corresponding to the sex listed on their birth certificates. It also omits LGBT people from North Carolina's anti-discrimination protections. The discriminatory law was highly objected and went against the NBA's stance on equality.
It was reported that the league was focused on New Orleans as the new location, and now it's official. The Smoothie King Center will be the new venue for 2017's festivities. New Orleans also hosted the All-Star Game in 2008 and 2014.
This year's All-Star Weekend kicks off February 17, with the closing East vs. West finale set for February 19.
