RadioOnFire.com - The mother of former NBA journeyman Delonte West says that her son is working on overcoming recent demons, with plans to find his way back into the league. Delphina Addison said West "is working toward coming back to the NBA," while addressing concerns over the troubled 32-year-old's health, in light of his publicized battles with a mental health illness. "He has been working out, and that's where he's at as of now," she told TMZ Sports.
Rumors began to circulate about the extent of West's struggles when a photo that appeared to show him panhandling on a Maryland highway surfaced the internet this past June. Addison dispelled the notion that West is homeless and has resorted to begging for his livelihood, clarifying that he still lives with his wife and kids, and was helping a homeless man's efforts when the picture was taken. The incident came four months after the former Cav's guard was spotted barefoot in a hospital gown at a Jack in the Box parking lot in Texas, in February. Up until that point word had already gotten around that West's life had taken a turn due to a diagnosed battle with bi-polar disorder. But Addison has said that he has since followed through with taking his medication and is within the bounds of getting his life back together.
"He is a heck of a player ... and he said, 'It's showtime!' He's ready to come back," she said. West, who did have an impactful run as a role player alongside Lebron during his first go with Cleveland, before later helping the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavs to the playoffs, hasn't played an NBA game since the 2011-12 season.
