RadioOnFire.com - After a year and a half as Donald Trump's replacement Arnold Schwarzenegger is leaving "The New Celebrity Apprentice," he confirmed through a statement obtained by CNN on Friday, March 3. And judging by sentiments expressed in the statement, his departure may have something to do with the legacy left behind by the real estate tycoon turned President.
"I loved every second of working with NBC and Mark Burnett. Everyone -- from the celebrities to the crew to the marketing department -- was a straight 10, and I would absolutely work with all of them again on a show that doesn't have this baggage," said Schwarzenegger.
Schwarzenegger has been at the show's helm since September of 2015, picking up where Trump left off when in 2014 he retired a run that began with the show's creation in 2008. Despite walking away so that he may fully focus campaigning for the White House seat, Trump would stay on board as executive producer. But without the signature presence of it's brash creator the show appears to have been destined to tank, with ratings in Schwarzenegger's debut season dipping to a modest 4.9 million viewers.
Back in February Trump made headlines when he rubbed Arnold's failure to get the production back on track in, during his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast. "Pray for Arnold," the President quipped after making reference to the show's standing, prompting Schwarzenegger to fire back through a video message to which he retorted, "Hey Donald, I have a great idea. Why don't we switch jobs? You take over TV because you're such an expert on ratings and I take over your job and then people can finally sleep comfortably again."
The word coming out of TV land is that it now appears unlikely that NBC will pick The New Celebrity Apprentice for another season.
