RadioOnFire.com - Dave Chappelle will release 3 new comedy specials in partnership with Netflix.
Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw confirmed that Chappelle had sold 3 specials to the streaming service earlier this week. “Dave Chappelle sold Netflix 3 comedy specials, one from his most recent tour and two from his 'personal comedy vault,'” he tweeted. The deal includes an original special that will be produced by Chappelle and director Stan Lathan. The other two will come out of Chappelle’s vault of material and will be released together sometime next year, according to Variety. The original special doesn’t have a release date at this time. Chappelle made his return to TV as the host of “Saturday Night Live” earlier this month. He’s been spending recent years doing standup and touring the country. He hasn’t had a significant presence on television since “Chappelle's Show” was canceled in 2006.
Netflix also just signed a $40 million deal with Chris Rock and is excited to partner with another legendary comedian. “Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy—searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential,” said Lisa Nishimura, Netflix’s VP of original documentary and comedy. “Dave’s three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy.”
