Ben Carson isn't dropping out of the race for the Republican nomination. That much is clear.
Everything else is getting murky about the status of Carson's longshot bid for the White House. The Washington Post reports he'll tell his supporters Wednesday he sees no "path forward" for the Republican nomination, but he declined to drop out. He won't attend Thursday's debate in Detroit, but will speak about his political future Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Oxon Hill. However, he said he will not formally suspend his campaign just yet.
"Even though I will not be in my hometown of Detroit on Thursday, I remain deeply committed to my home nation, America," Carson said. " I do not see a political path forward in light of last evening’s Super Tuesday primary results."
Carson has earned just six delegates, good for fifth place in the Republican field behind Trump's 319. He added just three on Super Tuesday, all from Virginia.
Carson, a former pediatric neurosurgeon, led polls some months ago, but began to fall behind front-runner Donald Trump, especially as former advisers questioned his grasp of foreign policy.
While fellow Republicans held parties and press conferences in key states like Florida and Texas, Carson spent his Super Tuesday evening hosting a campaign event in Baltimore.
