Sanders' win represents an upset in a state where Hillary Clinton campaigned heavily, and a surprise compared to polling, which had the former secretary of state winning by no less than 10 percent heading into Tuesday.
In a press conference put together last minute in Miami, Florida, Sanders commented on the Michigan Democratic primary and, although the results aren't known yet, called the night "fantastic" and "enormously successful."
