UFC: Jon Jones Could Be Gone For Good
RadioOnFire.com - Last week, #RadioOnFire reported that Jon Jones was suspended indefinitely from the UFC after he was suspected in a hit-and-run accident. According to his manager, even if the suspension is lifted, Jones could be done for good.
After the hit-and-run accident and the developments surrounding that story, the UFC immediately suspended Jon Jones and he was removed from UFC 187 where he was set to fight Anthony Rumble Johnson. Along with the indefinite suspension, he has also lost all of his titles from the UFC. The league stripped his titles in lieu of the recent events and his run as one of the most defended champions in the UFC went down the drain.
In a recent interview, Jon’s manager, Malki Kawa, stated that the possibility of Jones not returning to the octagon is very real. He explained, “It could very well be the last time we’ve seen Jon Jones in the octagon…I think Jon Jones is gonna focus on Jon Jones,” and no one can fault Jon if he needs to take a step back after the series of events that went down recently. I think that type of situation could get to anyone.
Kawa went on to say that he believes the personal things in Jones’ life may prohibit him from having the mental capacity to continue in the UFC, “…I think every athlete comes to a point…when they look in the mirror one day, they realize that a lot of it maybe is just sometimes too much…” Kawa makes perfect sense–as unfortunate as it may sound–because Jones was plagued with personal issue prior to this incident. Back in 2012 he tested positive for cocaine, a drug that usually clears the system in just a few days, and that alone may have been a big clue as to the instability that was present in life.
With the champ currently out, Cormier has a great shot at winning the match against Johnson. With the rivalry that has been present between Cormier and Jones, pending Cormier wins the match and the UFC lifts the suspension, perhaps that will fuel Jones to step back into the octagon.
