Ex-Lion Young Spared Prison, Gets 5 Years' Probation

RadioOnFire.com - (COMPTON, Calif.) – Former Detroit Lions receiver Titus Young, whose erratic, violent behavior resulted in felony assault charges against him in two California counties, received compassion – but a stern warning – from a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge who told Young today he would spare him from a state prison term.

Young, 25, who starred as a wide receiver at Boise State and then played two seasons for the Lions, was sentenced to a long probation term – five years – and one year of inpatient treatment and therapy at the Crosby Center in Escondido, Calif.

Young has already resided for three months at the Crosby Center, a substance abuse rehab center and mental health facility, as a result of a previous Orange County probation agreement. He has 99 days credit at the facility, so he could be a free man next February.

Young, dressed in blue jeans and a striped dress shirt, smiled and hugged his parents in the hallway after the ruling but declined to answer questions about his strange odyssey.
