Movie Review: Ride Along Smashes Box Office Records!

Ride Along smashed January box office records with it's $48 million dollar, 4 day weekend numbers! It's been a running joke for many years that "urban films" are not expected to open well and are not worth the investment. This however, could not be further from the truth.

In what should be the first of many movies together, comedian Kevin Hart and rapper Ice Cube show great chemistry on the movie Ride Along. The film starts and ends with action scenes, explosions and well done stunts. The story centers around Ben Barber (Kevin Hart) who is trying to earn James Payton's (Ice Cube) approval to marry his sister Angela (Tika Sumpter). Ice Cube plays an undercover Atlanta detective with a chip on his shoulder. He is determined to show his sisters video game playing, police wanna-be boyfriend; that he is not cut out for police work - let alone dating his only sister.

There are plenty of laughs and even a surprise appearance from Laurence Fishburne in the Tim Story directed action comedy. Ride Along is a hilariously funny movie that will have you laughing so hard you may miss the next dialogue. In the real world, a ride-along is an arrangement for a civilian to spend a shift in the passenger seat of a police car observing the work day of a police officer. In the movie world, the 100 minutes you will spend watching Ride Along is time well spent.
