Gun Threat Closes Washington College

According the a statement on the Washington College Facebook page, Classes at the college were canceled Monday after a report of a gun threat on the Chestertown campus.

Maryland State Police said there is no active threat but an investigation is continuing.

Students were told to shelter in place and wait for word from campus police.

School officials said the college is closed until further notice and faculty and staff are told not to report.

College spokesman Michael O'Connor says the parents of a sophomore notified the school that the student returned home and retrieved a firearm, but they have been unable to reach him. The college says in a statement posted online that it closed campus as a precaution and authorities are sweeping parking lots and campus buildings.

O'Connor says the student has not been spotted on campus.

We received notification early this morning from the parents of sophomore Jacob Marberger that he had returned home and retrieved a firearm. The parents have not been able to reach him and do not know where he is or where is he is headed.

Due to an abundance of caution the college has decided to close campus for the time being and asks all students and staff on campus to shelter in place. Anyone off campus should stay away from campus until further notice.

Public Safety has requested and received support from local law enforcement who are now on campus. A sweep of the parking lots and campus buildings is being conducted.

France Carries Out Raids, Names 2 More Potential Attackers

French police raided more than 150 locations overnight as authorities released the names of two more potential suicide bombers involved in the Paris attacks- one born in Syria, the other a Frenchman wanted as part of a terrorism investigation.

The raids came as the hunt continued for members of the sleeper cell that carried out last Friday's gun and bomb attacks that killed 129 people and as France launched its heaviest airstrikes on the Islamic State group's de-facto capital in Syria.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Monday "we are at war" against terrorism.

French authorities say Sunday night's airstrikes destroyed a jihadi training camp and a munitions dump in the city of Raqqa, where Iraqi intelligence officials say the attacks on Paris were planned.

Twelve aircraft including 10 fighter jets dropped a total of 20 bombs in the biggest air strikes since France extended its bombing campaign against the extremist group to Syria in September, a Defense Ministry statement said. The jets launched from sites in Jordan and the Persian Gulf, in coordination with U.S. forces.

The Paris prosecutor's office said one suicide bomber who blew himself up in the Bataclan music hall Friday night was Samy Amimour, a 28-year-old Frenchman charged in a terrorism investigation in 2012. Amimour was placed under judicial supervision, but dropped off authorities' radar in 2013 and an international arrest warrant was issued.

An attacker who blew himself up outside the national soccer stadium was found with a Syrian passport with the name Ahmad Al Mohammad, a 25-year-old born in Idlib, the prosecutor's office said. It said fingerprints from the attacker match those of someone who passed through Greece in October.

Across France and throughout Europe, people were due to pause for a minute's silence in memory of the victims of the worst attack on French soil since World War II.

Tension was high in France and Belgium as police looked for a key suspect. The arrest warrant for Salah Abdeslam, a 26-year-old born in Brussels, calls him very dangerous and warns people not to intervene if they see him.

Yet French officials revealed to The Associated Press that police already had him in their grasp early Saturday, when they stopped a car carrying three men near the Belgian border. By then, hours had passed since authorities identified Abdeslam as the renter of a Volkswagen Polo that carried hostage takers to the Paris theater where so many died.

Three French police officials and a top French security official confirmed that officers let Abdeslam go after checking his ID. They spoke on condition of anonymity, lacking authorization to publicly disclose such details

Paris Attacks: Manhunt Launched for 8th Terrorist; Police Detain Relatives of Gunman as Probe Widens

An international manhunt has been launched for 26-year-old Belgium-born Abdeslam Salah, believed to be the eighth attacker involved in terrorist attacks that killed 129 people in Paris.

Security sources said two of his brothers were also involved and that one of the brothers died in the Bataclan concert hall, while the other has been arrested in Belgium.

It is understood Salah is the only attacker still alive.

French police detained relatives and friends of one of the terrorists following the wave of attacks which has been claimed by the Islamic State (IS) group.

The first attacker to be named was 29-year-old Omar Ismail Mostefai, who was identified from a severed finger among the carnage at the Bataclan concert hall, the scene of the worst of the bloodshed with 89 killed.

French media said he was French-born and of Algerian descent.

French prosecutor Francois Molins said the man had a security file for Islamist radicalisation, adding that he had a criminal record but had never spent time in jail.

Police detained six people close to Mostefai, including his father, brother and sister-in-law, judicial and police sources said.

The holder of a Syrian passport found near the body of one of the gunmen passed through Serbia last month where he sought asylum, the Serbian interior ministry said.

Rousey chased Holm around the ring at UFC 193 on Sunday — looking for the right hold and taking head shots along the way — until Holm saw an opening 59 seconds into the second round and snapped a kick to the head that immediately dropped her more fancied opponent to the canvas.

Holm (10-0) jumped on the prone Rousey, delivering several blows to her head before the referee intervened, ending Rousey's 12-fight unbeaten run and handing Holm the bantamweight title.

An ecstatic Holm jumped around the ring while Rousey stayed on the canvas as she received medical treatment amid the roar of a stunned, record UFC crowd.

O'Malley Finds Hardly Any Superdelegate Support So Far

Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley has almost no committed support so far from Democratic superdelegates in his bid to win his party's presidential nomination, even in his home state.

While O'Malley has run as a new-generation leader who can point to a list of progressive accomplishments, Hillary Rodham Clinton has swept up eager endorsements in his political backyard from superdelegates who cite her experience.

"Hillary has worn many hats in her lifetime - secretary of state, U.S. senator, first lady, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, lawyer, public servant, congressional staffer and more," U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin said in his endorsement of Clinton in May.

Superdelegates are delegates to the Democratic National Convention who can support the candidate of their choice, regardless of what happens in the primaries and caucuses. They are members of Congress and other elected officials, party leaders and members of the Democratic National Committee.

With 712 votes at the convention next summer, superdelegates make up about 30 percent of the 2,382 delegates needed to clinch the Democratic nomination.

Associated Press reporters reached out to all 712 superdelegates during the past two weeks and heard back from more than 80 percent of them. The delegates were asked which candidate they plan to support at the convention next summer.

The results nationally: 359 for Clinton; eight for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders; two for O'Malley; and 210 who remain uncommitted.

Of Maryland's 23 Democratic superdelegates, Clinton already has a majority of 12 committed to her. Only one has committed to O'Malley. Six of the state's Democratic superdelegates remain uncommitted. Four could not be reached.

Clinton's support in the heavily Democratic state is noteworthy for how quickly and enthusiastically superdelegates pledged to back her, even ones with long ties to O'Malley. On the day Clinton announced her campaign for the presidency in April, Sen. Barbara Mikulski wasted no time in announcing her support, declaring in a statement: "Whoopee, Hillary is off and running!"

That effusive endorsement came swiftly, despite the former governor's long connection to Maryland's senior senator. O'Malley worked on Mikulski's 1986 Senate campaign, and his mother, Barbara O'Malley, has been the senator's receptionist for nearly 30 years.

In Maryland, only Yvette Lewis, a superdelegate who was the former chair of the state Democratic Party, has pledged to support O'Malley so far. Lewis said she saw firsthand O'Malley's energy and courage during his two terms as governor. She cited a sweeping gun-control measure he pushed through the Legislature in 2013. Lewis also noted his long battle and eventual success in repealing capital punishment.

"I admire him for his courage in the things he was willing to undertake," Lewis said.

Boyd Brown, a superdelegate in South Carolina, is the only other delegate to commit to supporting O'Malley so far.

"He's proven," Brown said. "Governor O'Malley is the only candidate in the race who has the record of actually doing things, not talking about them, and those achievements read like a Democrat's wish list."

Maryland superdelegates backing Clinton still express admiration for O'Malley.

Gregory Pecoraro, a Maryland superdelegate, said he has a lot of respect for O'Malley, but he is supporting Clinton, because he believes she has the right mix of experience and vision for the country.

"I think he'd be a good president, but given the opportunity to support Secretary Clinton, I think she has to be my first choice," Pecoraro said.

Police Charge Two Teens And Their Mom With Attacking A Maryland State Trooper

Maryland State Police have charged a woman and her two sons with assaulting a trooper in a Mount Airy department store bathroom. Authorities say Trooper Johnathan Horner was investigating a road rage incident when 42-year-old Traci Conners attacked a bystander recording the incident.

Police say when Horner tried to stop the attack, Traci Conners' son, 17-year-old Jacob Conners, attacked him, then ran into a store.

Troopers say Horner found Jacob Conners in a restroom trying to flush brass knuckles and a knife down a toilet. As Horner restrained Jacob Conners. Traci Conners and her other son, 19-year-old Steven Conners, attacked the trooper, authorities say.

Additional troopers arrived. Horner was taken to a local hospital.

Traci, Jacob and Steven Conners were charged with assaulting a police officer. Jacob was charged as an adult.
