NYC Reaches $5.9M Settlement With Garner Family
RadioOnFire.com - New York City has reached a $5.9 million settlement with the family of a man who died after being put in a chokehold in police custody, The Associated Press reported. The family of Eric Garner had filed a notice of claim in October, asking for $75 million, the AP reported.
Garner was stopped for selling loose cigarettes outside of a convenience store. The arrest and chokehold were caught on camera. The wire service said the officer involved claimed it was a legal maneuver known as a “seatbelt.”
